Professor John Rogers was born in Lowell, Massachusetts where he began his martial arts journey at the age of 12, training in Tung Soo Do and later becoming a high school wrestler. His passion for grappling deepened during his service in the U.S. Army, which he joined in June 2006, where he was first introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through the Army Combatives Program.
Throughout his military career, Professor Rogers continued to train and refine his skills. In 2017, he relocated to El Paso, Texas, and joined Gracie Barra El Paso, where he became an integral part of the academy. He dedicated himself to teaching both children and adults, sharing his knowledge and love for the art. There, he became a respected instructor for both children and adults, known for his technical and structured, approachable style.
In 2024, after years of dedication on and off the mats, Professor Rogers earned his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Jeff Vigil. The following year, in 2025, Professor Rogers took the next step in his journey by opening his own academy with Professor Fred Rodriguez, where he continues to serve the El Paso community through high-level instruction, mentorship, and a deep commitment to the values of discipline, resilience, and respect.
